To write, or to not, that is the question. I really don't know what to do. What to write about, or what people will care about.
So I'll talk about why anime is. Anime is a cartoon, in its purest form. Child's play as some would call it, yet it seems that not children but adults watch it, read it! Manga and anime are something completed different.
A friend of mine recently asked em why I was such an otaku. She didn't know what an otaku was but i won't say what she really called me. But when she asked me this I really didn't know what to tell her, all i could do was laugh. Thinking about it, there was nothing more to do but laugh.
I don't know what makes starting a new series so overwhelming or finishing a manga accomplishing even the moment where everything just falls in place in a story and the way life just becomes clear. Its a completely different.
This is also one of the reasons i hate people who badmouth certain animes and manga. When we look at a plot line we can find a million problems but that's the point! these shows, these concepts, drawings even are here to have problems, to be able to be in their own sense not someone else.
I really don't know where this is going, probably nowhere, and most likely will end up in the vastness of the Internet. But if there's one thing i will say is that nothing can be opinionated on anime and manga.

The oldies
I've recently noticed that no matter how long someone tries to look back anime will always have been in their lives. The classics is what I'm pointing at Inyusha, Dragon Ball, Samurai X, etc... SO what makes it so awesome? I have no idea i think its the story.
I love anime and manga nowadays but there was something else about the oldies. Strife? Ambition? Friendship? just something... the art wasn't that good neither was the story movement, they went on forever, and yet when you talk about it to a friend a sort of nostalgic feeling comes over you, a reminiscences of sorts seems to engulf you.
But these shows have something which is the fan base, something that's very hard for new manga and anime to create. Its those people that start to laugh and except the faults of the show yet say "that's the beauty of it!"
It was those Saturday morning with your siblings sitting there watching and laughing not really truly understanding much of the story yet accepting it because it was something to believe in.
The classics are what make anime and manga so great...

Otaku Time
I always taught, " what is the best time of the year for otakus," sometimes I'd think summers but that meant it being so hot that sitting in one position meant sweating like butter in the oven. Maybe spring, but then again most the time its only a week of break. Studying is the main priority. So fall, wonderful, school and anime. no its winter.
Winter is cold, you're expected to stay inside. If you get cold just put on an episode of Minami-ke with a Christmas arc! Hell i even use my charger to keep bread warm, (because i can that's why).
Winter is the perfect time. If you don't want to go out you can give the excuse, "I don't want to be bombarded by Christmas music," or "Its to goddamn cold for that shit." Its so simple. A who doesn't want to watch a Christmas arc or studying arc. Winter its the time where school holidays seem more philosophical just because its raining, also your facebook status can finally be of some use to tell me if its raining or not

yuri and yaoi
The fascination with these two homosexual topics in anime don't stop to intrigue me. consider this a show about two people (male an female) who fall in love and have to go through the trial and errors of love now take that and put two boys! aha you see how much better it gets. Its not annoying anymore. And who doesn't love the masochist lesbian who coys a girl in the depths of darkness to come play for another field. Yuri and Yaoi are the pinnacle genre of the anime world!
The idea behind my bold statement is the single idea that the genre can have litterly any arc, storyline, idea, even battle. the only difference is that it has a homosexual relationship.
I asked around a little and found that girls like doujinshi better than yaoi anime or manga. i think this is the idea of who should be who and who can be souske charcter!
But yuri is different of course doujinshi is far more popular but the better yuri manga and anime yuri seems to have a deeper more psychological point. maybe this is the concept of the demented lesbian raping poor little unsuspecting teenagers or the girl who just can't expect it
Yaoi and yuri are the most essential ideas in anime. It is our imagination that comes out the most. The what "if" or pairings that are the true want of anime and manga
we want to be told everything but when things are left to us we seem to do better and love it more.
Recently in 2 new shows the concept of yaoi and yuri could be seen very easily or at least could spark the imagine to create a Doujinshi!! how i love them! first is Psycho Pass which touched with a psychotic girl who takes her victims for a ride around the park (if you know what i mean) then kills them, how wonderful. then is Kamisama Hajmastia which if i don't if you do probably will have the ex-deity kiss the everlasting Tomoe leading to large amounts of pairings.
As i said before I asked around and tried to piece together the why and wants of these two genres. i decided on two people a boy and girl:
yuri:
girl-"it's just not right two girls are that intimate but some of that stuff is disgusting, I'm fine when an anime or manga will show that they slept together or something but sometimes it gets to much."
me-"but some yaoi show very explicit male parts what about that."
girl-"there guys and gay if they have sex and the artist show it that's not yaoi it porn."
boy- "girls are pretty, nice, and smell good I'm attracted to them so why can't they be attracted to each other its more for me, yuri is one of the greatest things taught up"
yaoi:
boy-"being gay isn't my problem but real guys are hairy and smelly i mean look at me, so yeah yaoi shows two insanely hot guys getting it on but its just not realistic"
me-"and yuri is"
boy-"far more than yaoi not ever guy is beautiful its can't be like TWILIGHT!"
girl-"its because there beautiful, i watch it for the storyline because some of the better ones have great emotion and hit key points in society."
i decided to delve further into why they were so basis
me-"i have a question besides the storyline and ideas that are in yaoi, what else is there? there has to be something else?"
girl-"boys are just more better looking naked!"
me-"wait, what?"
girl-"yeah i mean of course i can understand why a guy would love to get it on with a girl in a hot tight dress, but unless the girl was lets see, hairy not wearing makeup didn't do her hair didn't act all slutly and wasn't wearing a tight dress then it would just be skin while a guy, a normal guy can just stand there stark naked and for some reason it doesn't look like something is missing."
me-"i understand you don't have anything against gays but m**** said its like watching porn."
boy-"she's completely wrong, yuri is women loving the idea of women, i actually think its more empowering to women. Yes i do like the way they kiss and touch each other in certain places but come on like BL doesn't do that either."
me-"so what would you say to the more hentai toned stuff"
boy-"that means its henatai toned its meant to be sexual."
Its seems that in contrast all the people i asked had the same idea some said that it was what the person liked others said that if yaoi could be acceptable so could yuri and i quote "they should pull the stick out of their ass and be a little more accepting"

The New Now the Old
New anime who doesn't love it. Its exciting and extravgant. We expect so much from but yet allow it the idea of living in its own mind.
I do understand how many new animes started months ago but yet as sword art online finished i believe now is the time. If you read my first blog ever I said I had only started becoming an otaku a year ago. So most of that first year was spent trying to gather enough knowledge and opinions as possible. to tell the truth this is the time where I watch anime as a follower, of course I haven't finished Naruto or even started to understand Bleach (300+ episodes come on its going to take awhile), yet it seems like the world of ainmation is starting to open up more than i taught with the new ones.
Many of the ones I am following below are my favorite:
Sword Art Online: I believe if I am not correct that it has just ended and is now moving on to specials. The show is about a game which actually puts you inside the game but in this video game if you die in it then you die in real life also because the game puts you into as, I like to call it sleep mode in the real world, if you are pulled out without completling it then you die automatically with a microwave radiation shot through your (cool, i know).
The shows have a sort of harem vibe due to the fact that our main hero Kirko for some reason always pairs up with girls.
Psycho-Pass: As you notice I talk of this one a lot because i truly believe that the show is going to be the next Death Note. the show describes a post-cyberpunk world where you mood or emotions dictate your life. Those people who are the calmest and well put together have the higher position life a status.
The show has a dark idea to it. the main theme is clear but the actual concept is what makes it so extraordinary. A article on animediet.com By: MonsieurLaMoe describes the sexual aspect in a more recent episode. (your basic psychotic yuri chick)
Girls and Panzer: Military, Moe and girls. to explain this would take far to much effort so I will leave it to the good people at gogoanime.com (link at the end) But I will say this those girls ar just awesome come on how many of us wouldn't mind taking a ride with them and there body going here and there.
Kamisama Hajimastia: a shojo which I have already discussed but has the amazing and sexual fox spirits with a hint of deity and a couple of crazy angels! And who doesn't love an awesome fox spirt who is angry yet caring I don't know what you think but he is ikmen that I want him to be my familiar.
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun- a story of two people who are so strange and nonchalant about the love that it being there just adds to the hilarity of the show. You have ikemen, rich boy, horrible past, poor girl, conflicted parents, pretty girls, and love triangles which no one cares about, what more could you ask for?
That's about it for me but for a more complete list www.gogoanime.com/category/new-release which has a wonderful summary and new 2012 releases.

The Search
At the moment I'm sitting on the toilet, not because I'm using but because it is probably the most inspirational place in my house. So as I'm sitting here I'm wondering what really is an otaku. Of course I don't know what it is but have only heard it in anime and manga (a very limited but entertaining source). So what is an otaku
otaku: is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interest particularly (but not limited to) anime, manga, or Japanese video games.
as sourced from the everlasting wikipedia, the most helpful site on the Internet since the Internet!
^Ripped off from the Internet as well!^

^Ripped off from the Internet as well!^
But considering that I'm calling this the otaku handbook i believe i should at least know what I'm talking right? anyone? please tell em I'm right? just forget it!
I'm right and I know I'm right! Because I'm awesome! and epic, and all around cool. Not really. But it's my blog and i can do what i want.
Now that i\I've gotten that rant out of the way let's delve deeper the the different categories of an otaku (yes there are categories just like there are for any other label). There not categories but negative and positive aspect of the word. To actual people who are just obsessed about something the positive annotation can be simple as in saying " I'm a car-otaku" to things like " he's such an otaku or stalker!"
In hindsight to normal mainstream media, and by media I'm keeping Japanese people out of this, its a pretty normal term to refer to a obessey but in Japan it can lean towards a term for outcasts or weirdos (and not the good type!).

The Simple Stories of A simple Life
All anyone wants is an anime of stories, no crazy plots with horrible charcter back stories or complicated settings. sometimes you just want a story about normal people living their normal life. Of course I won't say that I don't love the amazing ninja world of Naruto or the post cyberpunk genre of Psycho Pass but its the simple stuff like Lucky star which really makes someone want to be Japanese.
Who doesn't love this gang?
While most people are asking for a love story, action and plot to all be in a manga, we still desire one which shows normal people doing normal things. Lucky star, a common anime which is made up of small skits of normal high school girls and yet seems to have a little storyline all while not being moved by it or Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou (DKN) which is basically Lucky Star but even funnier with its serious humor all have one thing in common, no plot.
Well there is one but you never see it or never truly hear about. In Lucky Star we Don't find out why Konata has no mom till the last couple of episodes or how in DKN the artists don't show any of the girls faces (except the Highschool Girls are Funky ones). Plot is not necessary because dialogue and actions are even better!
Boys who dance around in women's underwear, what a sight.
But its always a refresher to stumble upon a good slice of life genre based manga like Bakuman or Angel Densetsu and even if they're not tat simple they're not so complicated. The simplicity is what drives them to be the manga that we read and fall n love with because it's complexity lays in its calm exterior.
The horrors of holding in laughter
While we all couldn't have lived without our Bleach and Dragon Ball, its always lovely to be able to read one which has no real concept or idea. The ones that are just there for our enjoyment

The Search for Cyberpunk
When the show Death Note finally ended it seemed like a burden was left on cyberpunk fans. It seems like we just can't find that taught and ideas in nowadays anime. Yet when we have a stoic detective and all around awesome criminals with harden past yet a fun exterior we seem to fall in love with it.
But come on who wouldn't want to watch something which has so much taught behind it that just watching the anime makes you feel like a god damn L.
Psycho Pass is probably that one thing that will become a classic.
Now this might all just be common speculation, but considering that the manga was an amazing ride through the minds of criminals and police alike a lot can be expected out of the storyline, because come who doesn't love some insane police action!
But what makes a criminal? That is the main question on psycho pass. Is it something in your mind or is it something you're born with? Are we allowed to judge no rather can we judge the minds and decide if he/she is a criminal? Just like such shows, such as Death Note and Ghost in a Shell, it begs the question
"What makes a true criminal?"

Our lovely major
While Psycho Pass can sustain our cyberpunk fans its far more into the post cyberpunk, yet this show has potential. It's hard to find an anime this good in this day an age.Friday, November 9, 2012
The Stumble of a Pony
"There's a covention for everything"
As i got ready for a small fundraiser near Disneyland (The world of overpriced food), i couldn't help but hate this. I mean who wants to go to a stupid fundraiser where I would most likely not give any money and would most likely walk out and go adventuring half way through. But by the time I reached the Anaheim Convention Center the first thing I noticed was a girl with a blue wig.
Then a girl dressed in pink. then a boy in a Rainbow Dash sweater (my favorite), yes as faith would have it I who lived in two worlds one of the late night manga reads and one of the stylish and normal, stumbled upon a Wondercon.

Rainbow dash!!
To tell the truth I had only ever been to one convention and that was Anime con last December, so to actually see it one more time was magnificent even if it was the outside. People were cosplaying and having a great time. When most of the people were already inside a girl cosplaying as princess Celestia was standing outside taking pictures. The entire place and hotel nearby was swarming with otaku, who wouldn't love overhearing conversations (cause I'm creepy like that).
A friend of mine who was just as excited!
Now to make a long story short I will say this conventions are probably the best thing int he otaku world, but stumbling on it was even better.

Shojo: a simple obsession
As the week comes to a close it makes one wonder why the long awaited monday anime won't already be posted.
Recently I have fallen completely in love with two animes and for those who know this world well know the most romantic and love sappy shows are labeled shojo or shoujo.
Basically these are shows which are demographic toward women and involve two characters which have meet through some circumstance or other and end up in love. These shows most the time have a ikemen character who to tell you the truth is probably what anyone would call a delinquent.
Clannad
Shojo is a genre which certifies its own rules, as all anime and manga are, you cannot judge it by looking at it as a cartoon but as a anime in its own genre and respect.
Because I am going through what I like to call shojo syndrome I have decided to turn towards shojo, because of the way someone can become totally obsessed with the characters but when the series ends you have no withdrawal issues.
The first is:
Kamisama Hajimemashita- a story about a young girl through a series of fortunate and unfortunate events becomes the earth deity of a shrine and as well as gains a familiar who of course its a fox (because who doesn't love beastility?). They will most likely fall in love or something, but the main point is that he is a sexy fox spirit and any girl would want to take him away!
Who wouldn't want to live with that?!
The next is:
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun- a simple school life love tale of a, to no surprise, delinquent boy and a girl who loves studying mix in a chicken, some family problems, and a girl who gets hit on far to easily and you've got Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun

the help
The first anime I watched was Dragon Ball Z no matter how ridiculous it was I can say from the bottom of my heart that it will always be a classic.
That is what I will start this off with.
About a year ago, due to some strange youtube recommendations, I stumbled upon the infamous show The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Upon that moment I started the dark journey into the anime world and later the manga world. But throughout my journey I noticed one thing, Everything was shrouded in mystery. I had no guide, no true knowledge of the epic and awesome, nor and complete idea of what a good anime was like besides the lists and sites which gave very little direction, I was completely lost.
So if anybody (and I mean anybody) is reading this then I as a fellow lover of Japanese visual culture, shall tell you this I will make it my duty, no my privilege to give off the knowledge that I have acquired because unlike my fellow otaku I am but a child in this world and with that I hope to show you what I have learned.
With this small introduction and emotional promises let us start, reader from space, into the world of anime and manga. I hope that you find what you are looking for.
